16th January 2013: The 10 Day Countdown...
Ok, so today's photo is basically my favourite so far. Anyway, today I'm feeling a lot better. I only had two lessons today, both English Lit but with different teachers, both were pretty boring. In between these lessons, which were annoyingly 1st and 5th, I went to Bookers to get some stuff for the fundraising evening, and only need to go again next week, to get final things, 10 day countdown. After that I went back to my grandparents house and had lunch with them, which was nice :)
Haven't really done much today other than that, so pretty boring I guess.
To finish, I found it quite disturbing this morning, when I went on the BBC website and saw the story about the African Elephants that are increasingly at risk because of poachers, that selfishly hunt these elephants for their tusks. I don't know whether I have become more aware of these stories, because I've watched more of these nature programmes about African animals recently, or whether because there has generally been an increase in these stories. But, I struggle and consequently don't know whether to feel sorry for these poachers or not? They obviously feel it a worthwhile thing to do to get by and live, but do they feel they should go to an absolute extreme of sawing the front of an elephants face off, just to earn some illegal money? Maybe, 'they do it because they have to' but I still can't quite get my head around it. As there are guards around the National Parks, who try and protect the elephants and say it's a case of 'shoot or be shot'. Then there's people in our country worrying about some horse meat in some burgers... It's when you see a story like this in the news that you realise how lucky we are to be able to go out to a supermarket and pick whatever we want, whereas these people in Kenya have to something as severe as this to get money for food.
Thank you and feel free to leave comments below :)
