the small things.

In the last few months, I've had to look after myself a little bit more, I became a little fragile and even though bad days include(d) keeping myself to myself, avoiding talking to other humans and investing my time into writing, tidying and listening to music, I've learnt to find happiness in the small things.

Throughout 2014, I completed '100 Happy Days' (with a few days lacking in between - but it's something I'd recommend doing), however it meant that every time I did anything that made me remotely happy, I'd take a photo to capture that moment and that continued until the end of the year. Leaving me photos and videos to look over to remind myself of the good times in 2014, even if there were lowlights, it left me focusing on the highs.

This year, I'd like to focus more on being in those moments and enjoying them as they are, rather than documenting them as much as I did in the previous year, as I want to be sharing my best content rather than some half-arsed photograph that's a bit blurry and doesn't make me feel proud of what I can achieve(?!). This year, my 'memories' project is a 'Best of 2015' jar, where I will write down a moment that I feel I should remember, fold it up and put it in, to be read through at the end of the year.

However, for now, I will continue finding happiness in the small things, enjoying moments that I should be enjoying and getting through the storm of coursework and exams.
So, an ending note for this blog is that; in an attempt to remind myself of the things that make me happy (big or small) I will be posting a series of blogs titled '100 Things That Make Happy'...

Have you got an 'Happiness/Memory Projects' for 2015, if so, what are they and how are they going?

15th September 2013: rain, 'relaxing' and random things.

Oooooh! Is this an on time blog? Sorry, what's that? But seriously, this does make a change from the past month - right? :P
I'm glad to see the weather's returned to normal for England, although it doesn't mean I like getting wet shoes... (insert Frank Hamilton lyrics here).

On Monday, I had to be in school for first lesson, we went through the first two pages of Antony & Cleopatra. I then had a free, then English Language, just starting to talk about child language acquisition! Had a catch up with Philippa before she went off to uni, I then had to walk back to school for an assembly and got drenched in the rain and then sat through an assembly I didn't even need to be in (too much UCAS and Uni's).

Tuesday was a pretty long day to be honest. Double Media to start the day, a free which I used to sort otu some emails. After that I had double English (one of Lit, lunch & then English Lit).

I had a rather nice day on Wednesday, although I was late in for my one and only lesson of the day (English Language)! I came home and went for a driving lesson, they're going really well and I'm getting better, which is always nice! I then went and did club, it was the first one (for me) this school year, so it was nice to see the kids and catch up with what they'd done over the holidays, as well as what they thought of their new teachers/schools.

Thursday, I went in for my first lesson, then went to the doctors, had a jab (only four left). I went back into school for another lesson, then a free to send some emails, lunch to get bourbons for Lauren and then English Language last. We had a rather amusing fire drill (the thing that made it funny? Someone in my year, in a toga, on their 18th birthday, after having an hour free and no lessons left for that day...)
Then it was on a train with Lailana to Borderline in London to see Lauren Aquilina. I have to say it was a pretty insane gig! All the supports were amazing and Lauren was brilliant, backed with a band just highlighted to me my confusion as to why she hasn't made it massive yet, but she's getting there and to me she is just getting better and better. We got to meet and chat to all the artists including an extra - Harry Hudson-Taylor. I must admit I was gutted to find out as we left that Frank and Nina Nesbitt were there and watching at the back. (By the way I've done a review type blog with the photos and music links, which is underneath this one :))

Friday, was a very long day, I didn't have much to do but everything was so much effort, with only about 3 hours sleep, I spent most of the morning thinking about getting up and not doing it. Eventually, I did and went in for my only lesson (Media Studies) which was alright, got picked up and went to my sister's assembly, went home and had a sleep. Then went and did club, this took a lot of effort. When I got home, I attempted to watch the Celebrity Big Brother final & failed!

So, Saturday morning I caught up with the CBB final, got up for about 5 minutes at a reasonable time and decided I wasn't feeling great so went and stayed under my duvet for a bit longer. I eventually got up properly at an unnacceptable time of 12.30... :P I sorted photos out from Thursday and then did some wok. After that I did some blog work, Gran came round for dinner and I helped cook some lasagna (which I managed to eat after some recent anti-meat moments).

Today, I haven't really done much. I've listened and sorted through a lot of music. Written two blogs up and planned another one (for that other blog I do...:P) But that's been about it...

Music of the Week!

This first song comes from a guy that I fell in love with on Thursday, his name is Daniel James and this song sung alongside just a guitar and wooden block (which probably has a more technical name...) was absolutely insane and the recorded version is also pretty good!
A Lonely Man - Daniel James: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCiGkwE66U8

The second song is from a group I've been listening to and following for a while, but they're finally starting to break through, recently covering In For The Kill in the Radio 1 Live Lounge and now announcing they're supporting Ellie Goulding on tour... These guys are also iTunes free single of the week!
Strong - London Grammar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6drfp_3823I

These last two songs are from my all time favourite TV programme... Doctor Who! They released series 7 soundtrack recently and personally I think Murray Gold (the composer) is a genius! I found it really hard to choose a track to put in here. I knew it had to be something to do with the Ponds last episodes, or the episode 'The Name of the Doctor'... so I chose two!
Together Or Not At All (from 'The Angels take Manhattan): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gam8ogWBLk
Remember Me (from 'The Name of the Doctor'): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIKuxWsLoDE

Photos...
9th September 2013: wet shoes...
10th September 2013: long day and sorting emails.
11th September 2013: one lesson and on the roads.
12th September 2013: another jab and an aquilina gig.
13th September 2013: so tired i can't walk or talk.
14th September 2013: getting up late and chilling.
15th September 2013: rain, 'relaxing' and random things.
Thanks for Reading!
Have a good week!

26th May 2013: a long week, finished with a fun filled weekend!

Monday 20th May: the bit after sunset, but the bit before the stars.

Tuesday 21st May: erm, so i got some walking shoes...

Wednesday 22nd May: two down, three to go.

Thursday 23rd May: over half way...

Friday 24th May: one exam left, cake making and weekend away!!

Saturday 25th May: bibles, fun and bonfires...

Sunday 26th May: a long week, finished with a fun filled weekend!

This has been a long week, 3 exams in the space of 3 days (not as bad as some people, but it’s bad enough!)
Then a weekend away with 24 kids aged 7-11. Tired, would be an understatement… But it has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences I’ve had.
Monday, took my sister to school, went to pick up some stuff for her to take on weekend away, got some walking shoes for myself and some t-shirts (ideal for Kenya… 5 months away…) Then went home and did some revision, then picked my sister up from school and chilled with her for the evening.

Tuesday, again I took my sister to school, then went into school myself to do some Psychology and PE revision, which was helpful, then went home and did some more revision and  stuff.
Wednesday, had my second AS exam, Psychology Unit 1… I think it went ok, I mean I answered all the questions, which was a first for that subject this year… I sort of knew what I was talking about when I was answering them too… (Well I think I did?) Still, after that exam I did hard-core PE revision for the rest of the afternoon.
Thursday, did my PE exam, my third AS exam, I’m feeling I should have respected the questions a bit more, if that makes any sense? Thinking I could have done much better than I did, and not feeling too confident about my result there, but we’ll just have to wait and see :S
Friday, second to last AS exam, English Language, meh, again, I think it went ok, but gonna have to wait to see if it went well enough… Finished my exam, had lunch with my grandma, and then looked after my sister for most of the afternoon, we baked cakes and finished packing our bags for weekend away…

So then, 5pm came, Friday 24th May, and we were off in two minibuses and a car, on a weekend away, it took us twice as long to get there to what we’d planned, so consequently when we got the kids to camp they were pretty excited, and wanted to run riot. Still, we got their rooms sorted, laid down the rules and reward system and then it was dinner time, pizza and salad, it was good and seemed to go down well! Chores were done and then the first session of I’m A Leader Get Me Out Of Here... I may have been the first one out (balancing with a dodgy knee is never gonna end well) but I avoided being voted into the final… Then we had our first session of the weekend, involving a talk about Daniel and then a discussion in our room groups, which was great. Then it was time to try get them to bed…  Let me put it this way, we had to go into one room to get them to be quiet at 2 in the morning… then they were up at quarter to 6 the next morning?

Consequently Saturday was a long day! All the male leaders had got a good nights sleep because they were deep sleepers and everything, nice for them, but the three female leaders, including me were out of it, this meaning it was a real test of patience. The weather was lovely, which was a great start, and after morning warm up and breakfast and chores, we had our second session of the weekend, the talk was the story of The Fiery Furnace in Daniel, after that we had a discussion and then onto the second round of I’m A Leader Get Me Out Of Here… again, I didn’t win immunity, I gave doughnut eating a good go though, and it was a close round, and luckily I still didn’t get voted through to the final :D

We then let the kids have tuck and chill time, which was basically us playing a game of football and twister with them which was good fun! I then led a wide game, which was basically capture the flag, but with a slight twist and tokens instead of flags. Then it was lunch, chores and the third session (writings on the wall) followed by a discussion. After that, it was time for the activities, my group went on the climbing wall, they did really well, those that were a bit wobbly to start with got up there and at least tried it, so it was good to see them having a go. Then we went on to do archery, which was fun!

We went back to our hut thing?! We had dinner, did chores, did another round of I’m A Leader Get Me Out Of Here, this was the last round, for the third place in the final, I missed out on immunity yet again, so this meant it was between me and one other leader for the final, at one point I honestly thought it was going to be me, but luckily they saw sense and the majority voted for the other leader! So, I wasn’t getting gunged!! J

We then headed outside for a bonfire, we played some games, toasted some marshmallows, had some hot chocolate and one of the leaders shared their testimony with the kids, they listened well and took the opportunity with the spare time after to ask other leaders about how they became Christian, and it was great to see the kids listening, taking it in and asking questions after too.
After that, it was bed time, and they were asleep within half hour, which we were VERY thankful for! This meant that we got a good nights sleep, which was needed!

Then today, we had breakfast, listened to the finalists speeches to convince the kids not to vote for them to be gunged, then did chores and gave them the results! I  was quite surprised but there we go! We then had our last session of the weekend, which was the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den, including a role-play from the leaders… (This is when doing GCSE Drama comes in handy!!) Followed by a discussion, then the gunging!!! The gunge was made up of all sorts from pea and ham soup, to marshmallows mixed with pasta and sauce, YUM! Then some free time, which was used for me to teach some of them some chords on the ukulele, it was great to have one of the kids especially who usually struggles a bit to concentrate and stay ‘settled’ came and sat and seemed to enjoy it and they were pretty good too! It gave them something to focus on, which was a great way to keep them occupied!
Then it was lunch time, followed by chores and prizes! After that was time to pack up and start heading home L
It was a great weekend, and I found it great being a leader and without being too cheesy, it was great getting to know the kids better, watching them grow in confidence and build relationships with each other, their team work together got so much better over the weekend, and I’m really hoping they keep that with them with the rest of the Friday Club Xtra group.
I found it a really rewarding experience and would definitely do it again! It was a positive weekend and refreshing too!

Music of the Week:

Mainly because I’ve been waiting sooooo long for her second album it’s got to be Jessie J’s new single!!
Wild ft. Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal – Jessie J: (acoustic teaser) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crGnGsKFJYA
This one I’ve put in because I’ve been listening to this guy whilst revising, and the video for this specific song is pretty cool sooo…
Viva La Vida (cover) – David  Garrett: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZ_BoOlAXyk

Last one is from someone I used to play cricket with, it’s a summery cheery song, the video’s cool and just thought it was a song you guys should hear J ENJOY!
Milk and Cookies – Malory Torr: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFiqX5X_DPI

Quotes of the Week:

‘doing good, feels good’

‘don’t try your best, because if your best isn’t good enough, there’s no need to get upset about it’ (a simplistic idea my sister came up with when I was freaking about one of my exams…)

‘are we in front of the other minibus behind us?’ – from one of the kids today on the way home, I think this one sums up how tired we all were after a really great weekend!

28th April 2013: cricket, aches and other stuff.

Monday 22nd April: songs and skinny jeans.
Tuesday 23rd April: happy st. georges day and happy birthday shakespeare!
Wednesday 24th April: i survived cricket training... just!
Thursday 25th April: rooftops, clouds and a sunset.
Friday 26th April: 'always do your best, what you plant now, you will harvest later'.
Saturday 27th April: doctor who, hail, cooking and coursework.
Sunday 28th April: cricket, aches and other stuff.
Well this week has been pretty full... It's seen a 3 month counter to my birthday, 6 months til Kenya, a return to cricket after avoiding it for a while, some of my most popular photos of the day being taken and lots of other random stuff :)

You know when you have one of those weeks that you do lots in and it feels good? I've had one of them, however, there's other things that I've let annoy me so much, a perfect example of this is an email I got today, normally it wouldn't have bothered me, but I think the fact that I've been trying pretty hard in the past few weeks made it that little bit more annoying. Still, this email was fine until the end when I got told 'a lot of work still to do but you maybe shouldn't have left it so long!!' ok, so the fact that I'd emailed said teacher nearly 3 weeks before today, with a draft, and it took until Friday, for her to give me any feedback, my coursework is due in next Friday? And I have two mocks this week, much appreciated, thanks!!

Still, onto the better things :) helped out with one of the boys cricket clubs this week at school, which was good. Returned to cricket, went to training on Wednesday, which wasn't too bad, although still not better from being ill in the past two weeks and that obviously showed... Today's match didn't go very well, we lost... I went in to bat 2nd, faced a few balls and then got out for 2... Safe to say my head still isn't quite back into it. My bowling was pretty good though, and I got a wicket, which is always a plus :)

Next week could be a challenge... But hey, how bad can coursework, two mocks, three cricket sessions, three sessions with 'challenging' young people and a few other things really be?

Quote of the Week: 'always do your best, what you plant now, you will harvest later'. This is what I'm trying to live by at the moment especially as I'm going into 'exams season'. It's an important thing to remember with everything you do really, just the fact that the more you try now, the more you'll gain when you get to the end.

Music of the Week:

Born To Die (cover) - Daisy Guttridge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiVMCnAN3Ms

Panic Cord - Gabrielle Aplin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLdTcr98fSs
This is definitely one to chill to in the sun :)

Keep Your Head Up - Ben Howard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADP65wbBUpc
Just love this song, listen to pretty much every day, definitely a feel good song for the summer :)

Twitter of the week: Lots went on this week, Daisy Guttridge favourited, RT'd and tweeted me quite a bit and followed me back, Jenna Louise Coelman (Clara from Doctor Who) favourited one of my tweets, Colton and Zara, MLICOfficial (Brady Szuhaj from Late Nite Reading) and The Natterjacks followed me... and no, I didn't ask any of them :)

I'm now off to have a hot chocolate, do some PE revision for my mock tomorrow, and then get some sleep :)

13th February 2013: unlucky for some.

So the 13th has the attachment of 'unlucky for some'. For me, it was quite a lucky day, I didn't have to present my annotations of the Owen Sheers poem, so that was a plus to start the day with, then I had another English lesson, where I got called racist for describing an accent as 'talking funny' even though I say things differently to other people like seen and been, and admit that to some it might sound funny. I have friends up north who laugh at my accent, seeing the accent as funny? Anyways! I then went home and watched some of the cricket and typed up a nearly completed draft for my third chunk of coursework, meaning I'm very nearly finished. Back to the cricket, I found it typical that the Aussies lost, I could almost say they did it on purpose to knock us out the World Cup, but then that would be unsportsman like of me... So, a win against New Zealand as the next result, coming 3rd will have to do...
Then back to sixth form for my final English lesson of the day, which went surprisingly quickly and the highlight had to be my friend turning round in a tired state and asking me and my other friend 'what's that fly thing that sticks its tongue out to catch things?' which we replied to with lots of laughter.
Then back home to finish off some PE work for tomorrow and Friday, yay! Majorly happy because I discovered my old gameboy advance in my sisters room, with two games, Crash & Spyro Superpack, which was my favourite game, as well as Pokemon, which I lost :( and the other game was King Kong, which I never got into. As well as mourning the loss of my Pokemon game, 10 years late, I'm on a mission to find my Pirates of the Carribean game and Pacman. I'll be taking a trip to Game somewhen soon to try and find a good Pokemon game either for my DS or if there are any game boy versions around, one of those :)
Have quite a few frees coming up in the next two days, and of course half term next week so I'll get back onto longer, topical blogs as well as better, edited photos and stuff :)
But here's one I edited earlier, that I found on my memory stick from last year on a nature walk, that was supposed to be a maximum of 2k but turned into 8, if not more.... If you don't like spiders, look away now :)

Thank you!!

evan. :)

22nd January 2013: it's been a long day...

Say hi to 'Jolly Santa' his leg tasted very nice and I got a retweet from the singer I posted about the other day, Josh Record, I officially think he's amazinggg :)
It's been a long day... I've had 4 lessons of English, a subject that I'm loving right now! NOT! Oh and psychology... So I had a full day at school, I've got to finish 3 areas of my English Language coursework by the latest, next Tuesday, but I need two of these areas finished by Friday... Whilst I need to be doing this, I am trying to finish organising last minute things for Saturday, which is fast approaching...
Anyway back to this English coursework... It's fine, except I find it pointless, when I find something pointless I'll take my time to do it, and stupidly sometimes won't do it at all... Obviously this isn't my plan for this coursework, HOWEVER I do find it a bit stupid, BUT I am getting my head round it, and I will be doing it for when my deadline is... although, I do struggle to understand why we need to do TWO style models for an article, because all I will end up doing is finding the same things in both articles and repeating myself, which is surely pointless? I'm really regretting taking English Language, as you might be able to tell from my recent blogs, but most of the work I either find pointless or just a bit boring I guess... :S I don't want to offend my teachers cos they don't set the coursework, so it's not their fault... The only positive about this work is that I can do an editorial article about sexism in sport... You are all probably thinking 'here we go, evan's going to go on about how men think it's wrong for women to play cricket' but no, I'm going to put a spin on it (see what I did there?) I'm also going to show sexism towards men in sport... Have you ever seen men play netball or rounders? This is what I want to do my article about and if you have a view on it please comment, because you're likely to be part of my coursework... (if that's ok?) I'd like to know if you find sexism in sport towards women more prominent or men, what sports are included in this, and if you think this will change...

Thank Youu!!

21st January 2013: Tower of Mash.

The past few weeks, have been full of towers of mash. The past few days, have been full of snow. Both very similar, they're both white, fluffy? and inconvenient!
Moving on... Doing well on finalising things for this Saturday... 5 sleeps to go... Not doing so well on the English Language coursework... thinking of changing career option slightly... heading towards PE a bit more now... I don't care if certain people think it's not a proper option for GCSE/A Level, it's something I've always enjoyed and at the moment I wish I could get out of one of the English's... Also, my Mum told me about an article she read in the paper the other day about children under 11 not having set PE teachers, consequently meaning they have less hand-eye co-ordination, bat and ball motor programmes and so on. This motivates me to change that, and knowing secondary schools seem to have plenty, and I've enjoyed both work experience weeks I've done both in primary schools, and the youth club I help out at on Fridays , so surely it's right?!
Anyways, today's photo is of a massive oak tree with the sun behind it, I thought it looked pretty picturesque. I'm sorry entries recently have been slightly shorter, and less interesting, but I've been really busy and need to catch up and keep up on coursework and finalising the fundraiser, so there won't be in depth opinion blogs until sunday I guess...
Also I've set up another blog for reviews, there will be a '5 of the week' every weekend, so check that out :) http://thumbsupitsevan.blogspot.com

Thank youu :)

evan. :S
