Lauren Aquilina, Orla Gartland, Daniel James & Matt Maltese - Borderline, 12th September 2013.

On Thursday, I went to see the lovely Lauren Aquilina, performing for a sold out Borderline in London. I must admit, when we got into soundcheck and heard her singing just a few songs with her new band, I could tell it was going to be good!
Because of getting there for soundcheck, it meant we were at the front of the queue, which meant we got to stand right at the front - I just about have ears left :)

First up supporting Lauren was Matt Maltese, he'd won the comptetition to support Lauren at one of her dates. He was pretty good, and I did come home and check him out on YouTube. He has a chilled sound and his skill with a piano/keyboard adds to his vocals. He's got an EP out, which is a pretty good EP especially for his first one, his music reminds me of Jamie Cullum...

The next supporting artist was Daniel James. Now, this guy was insane! (I was quite disappointed to find out at the end he didn't have any EPs/singles out yet...) Still, with just his voice, a guitar and a block of wood, I was mesmerized. I must admit I do tend to love any song with a good beat in it, but Daniel performed this one song called 'A Lonely Man' and ahhh it was so good! Just before he finished his set Lailana, two people that we got friendly with and I, decided to spread the word about singing Happy Birthday to him... (and yes it was his birthday :P)

Last of the supports was Orla Gartland, someone that I have followed for quite a while. She definitely didn't disappoint.Whilst singing she played the acoustic guitar, electric guitar and another funky instrument (which I didn't have a clue about!) She performed two of my favourite songs 'The Ground' and 'Devil On My Shoulder'... She's lovely as well and to see someone so into their music they pull the best facial expressions ever is pretty awesome! :) Oh and she's got an EP coming out soon, the songs are sounding good, so keep your eyes peeled! :)

Orla Gartland
After a 20 minute wait, Lauren came on stage, and started off with 'Ugly Truth' and went on to perform a mixture of songs from her EP, a song that hasn't made it onto an EP, two new originals and a cover of the classic 'Complicated' by Avril Lavigne. It was nice to hear her with a live band as well as on her own for a solo of Wonder. I'm still confused about how she hasn't go more radio play, but she's getting there and even though I thought it was impossible she's just getting better and better. (She's got an announcement coming very soon as well, about another tour, in February, so again keep your eyes peeled for that!)

It was also rather nice at the end to get to meet them all, and an extra named Harry Hudson-Taylor (1/2 of Hudson Taylor) - someone else for you guys to hear! (Care - Hudson Taylor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrP167_KAzU) We got to speak to all of them, and gave Lauren some bourbons... One of the best gigs I've been to in a while (sorry Frank!)

21st July 2013: 'the fence is leaking'.

Had a more postive week, probably because it saw the end of L6 (first year of A Levels). Although it was also quite a sad week, being many of the best teachers at my school's last few days...

Still... onto the week's overview ;)

Monday was an interesting day... (To give you a bit of backgroudn info - the night before I'd been laying in bed and as I got up to get a drink of water, I sneezed, consequently pulling muscle by ribs...) So I spent my day in pain everytime I sneezed, coughed or laughed (which is what I seemed to spend most of my day doing Monday...) Still, uninteresting day apart from that, we had our headteachers leavers assembly, but it was pretty dull to what it could have been... After-school, sixth form vs year 9s cricket match, didn't go well, we lost, and I probably shouldn't have played but oh well!!

Tuesday... it officially hit too hot on the evan scale... I came home from sixth form and literally just collapsed on my bed, I couldn't move I was so hot! I must have drunk the equivalent of a swimming pool's load of water... *slight exaggeration* but I still felt like I was going to faint, so I decided to put all end of term school work on hold and sleep...

Wednesday, not much really happened, pretty boring day to be honest...

Thursday... In the morning, I was feeling pretty bad to say the least, I was nervous and was contemplating even going in to sixth form for the day... Still, I went in late, in time for the start of House Public Speaking... I'd been put up as Questioner for my House, and considering I didn't do much in House Sports and House Music, I decided I'd give it a go, we were from Tudor, we weren't expecting a win, so had nothing to lose... We had a solid speech by Jake about 'The Pressures of Being a Lad...' and we had Aram as Chair, which was amusing... I then had to question Josh (which would have been difficult on any subject...) but he chose to speak about the Go Compare adverts... Now me and speaking don't go too well, let alone public speaking, so I stood up to start questioning, I was shaking, my mouth went dry, I said countless erms and so's... BUT I won best questioner... So yeah, one thing to take from Thursday was to face a challenge, no matter what it is, or who it's against. It was a bit of a slap in the face for me I guess, I've had a bit more of a 'get on with it' attitude...

Friday was a bit of a sad day... it was my headteacher's last day, he'd workign at the school for the past 12 years, and we'd been there for half of it :( Then 3 other teachers I got on with and many others had their last day. We finished with sixth formers and teachers singing Jerusalem, which has always been a 'lump in the throat' moment for our year. Still, I did some tidying in my room when I got home and then chilled. Then came the last ever 'Friday Club' as we knew it :(

Saturday... I was up and out the door just after 7.30 (in the morning) to go food shopping... Then came home and mowed the lawn. I then helped tidy and hoover the house, then prepped some BBQ stuff... After that I had my b'day bbq thing, which was nice, few friends came and some fam. Band Hero was played, and some dodgy singing happened :P some night badminton went on, I think that's where my bruises are from? and then INTENSE twister... My arms and legs are sore today!!

Sunday, well I'm writing this at midday, before I've really done anything... I got up a lot later than yesterday... 10 o'clock... I've basically been sorting this blog out since, with distractions in between. For the rest of the day, I'm out and about, going to watch a band at the local music in the park thing, then I'm off to a party at my friends house, which should be good! :)

Next week is looking like a pretty epic week already, especially Wednesday (dunno what's happening?!)

14th July 2013: sun, books and the sea...

Later post today, got home from a weekend away by the sea quite late today, then got distracted by Jessie's livestream of her concert at Eden Project...
Still, here we go!

Monday, didn't really do much... Wore flip flops for the day... which I regretted after about an hour... ahah!
Tuesday, I had a full day at sixth form, and then spent 2 hours trying to upload the 'Music In Time' blog post for the week, but that didn't go up easily, so I decided to leave it for the night and do it on the Wednesday...
Wednesday saw the 2 week countdown to my birthday :D Also had a pretty pointless day in sixth form, and a very quiet evening at home, as my sister went on a residential school trip...
Thursday, was House Music, we got placed third, which obviously we were alright with, however we weren't the only ones confused by the House that won, and order of placing, but there we go! Went to the concert in the evening, and my Mum and Gran came along too, obviously it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and resulted in a few emotional moments for a few house captains... and a awesome moment of a few of us starting to dance and clap along to the final song and being joined by other sixth formers, to year 7s and teachers... :D (one of the limited proud moments of being a sixth former at our school...)
Friday, my sister came home, I didn't do much at sixth form and then off to Friday Club...
Saturday came, and I washed Mum's car, watched my sister do a bit of horse riding, played a bit of passenger on the ukulele, forgot many things before we then headed down to the coast for the rest of the weekend, on the way down, we stopped off to watch a fly over (from Goodwood's Festival of Speed) from the Vulcan?! It was a pretty awesome sight and sound... Then we had chilled, played some football, had a BBQ, Papa (my Granddad) made some grilled banana things (which despite me hating the texture of...) actually tasted pretty good with some ice cream and maple syrup :) Then a trip to the beach to watch the sun set, and it was massive and reddy/pink...
Then today, slow day really, went to the beach again, had a walk round, got some sea food, had another BBQ, chilled a bit more and then came home...

A good week, lovely weather and everything, but I'm gonna be a typical Brit now, it was a bit too hot at times!! Like now, as I'm writing this it's too hot and I'm dreading trying to get to sleep in it!!

Music of the Week

(One song that absolutely sums up my whole week - purely because it's popped up so much and I've had it stuck in my head cos of House Music...)

Ain't Nobody - Chaka Khan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MF_B-VfHhs

Three Little Birds - Bob Marley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4sNi2PUiWM

Talk To Me - Lauren Aquilina: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQT_Xv-M7tk

8th July 2013: flip flops for a day...
9th July 2013: full day followed by a pointless 2 hours.
10th July 2013: 2 weeks til my b'day & a quiet house.
11th July 2013: House Music - placed third again.
12th July 2013: the sister's home!
13th July 2013: BBQ'd bananas...
14th July 2013: sun, books and the sea...

7th July 2013: BBQ, badminton, bare feet and a win for murray.

Pretty good week :)

Monday, I didn't really do much, I stayed up late to help promote some specific musicians with A LOT of music that day...
Tuesday was insane, spent the day asking ex-prisoners questions and hearing about their time in and out of prison... Some stories were sad, others were funny. Changed my mind about how prisons and the justice system works...
Wednesday, normalish day at sixth form, fell asleep as soon as I got home and then ended up staying at my gran's for the night :)
Thursday, spent my evening doing work that made no sense and not having a clue what I was doing.
Friday, busy day, sixth form, youth club and then babysitting (whilst watching tennis!)
Yesterday, chilled and cooked cottage pie with dad, which turned out to taste pretty good!
Then today, day helping people, chiling in the sun, playing badminton with the sister, wearing flip flops (which like never happens) and a BBQ. Oh and watched the WImbledon Mens' Final, nice one Murray! Well deserved, surely he's gotta be Sir Andy Murray now?

Music of the Week...

Sinners - Lauren Aquilina: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knzu1g-S0fI

The War - Josh Record: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPWUMiWQCAQ

Biblical - Biffy Clyro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrbMNBNMksk

1st July 2013: a good day for music.
2nd July 2013: spending the day with ex-prisoners...
3rd July 2013: change of plans.
4th July 2013: spending 3 hours on work that makes no flipping sense.
5th July 2013: another change of plan.
6th July 2013: summer (maybe one day my name will be on a coke bottle :P)
7th July 2013: BBQ, badminton, bare feet and a win for murray.

Sunday, 30 June 2013

30th June 2013: i should probably start typing now.

Monday 24th June: button moon and a new camera...

Didn't do much Monday, went to sixth form, had an alright day, came home, opened a parcel (which was my new camera!) Then managed to stay awake til dinner then fell asleep for a few hours...
Tuesday 25th June: House Athletics: 3rd!

Tuesday saw Tudor come third in house athletics, which for our house was an achievement! I then came home, sorted out my 'Music In Time Blog' and got frustrated as it still doesn't look professional cos of fonts and spaces, but oh well!!
Wednesday 26th June: 'three little birds'

A psychology trip and a cricket match was cancelled on Wednesday, meaning I didn't actually have to go in... As soon as I got in I was asleep again, I literally woke up for dinner and that was it, 20 mins, then I was asleep again for the night.
Thursday 27th June: a few more tiring and pointless hours.

After a pretty boring day in the sixth form block (apart from a strawberry fight in the common room...) A few of us went to do a few hours as sports leaders... This was pointless and included us standing watching others lead and run the activities, we were just making sure there werer no unruly kids... There was me thinking that was what all the teachers were doing there?

Friday 28th June: burned my thumb, now off to see After Earth.

Burned my thumb after getting chesse straws out the oven at club :( Still, I went to see After Earth (the film with Will and Jaden Smith) and I thought it was pretty good. Reminded me of a cross between Avatar and Hunger Games, don't even know why, but it did!

Saturday 29th June: more hay fever, horses and minibeasts.

I went to watch my sister ride a horse yesterday, and she's pretty good at it! I took lots of photos, and I also took lots of photos of bees, ladybirds and butterflies... However my SD card played up, yet again! Meaning, I lost them all :( Still, apart from that had a kinda chilled day and then went babysitting in the evening :)
Sunday 30th June: i should probably start typing now.

Today, I've tried to do some PE work, and got nowhere, so I gave up. I then went to a music thing in the park for a bit, until my hay fever got so bad and I got too hot, that I decided it was best I went home, I then sorted my room out a bit and then sat thinking about this longer than what I should have... So, took me longer to get started...

Things I have learnt this week:
 - Make sure the anti-histamine I'm taking is non-drowsy, especially when you're feeling ill anyways...
 - Make sure I get a new SD card ASAP!

23rd June 2013: mission caterpillar.

An interesting week. Tiring but pretty insane! Pretty much did something every day (which makes a change!)

Monday 17th June: falling asleep in the common room.

I went to see my sister and her school in a music festival/concert thing, and of course I enjoyed every second of it, I even sang along to a few of the songs... However, it annoys me that there were kids under the age of 10 craving attention, moving to the middle of the stage, at the back (to make sure they stuck out like a Harry Potter fanatic at a Star Trek convention) continuing to move 3 schools away from their own and then start messing around. They could have at least had the decency to learn the words...

Tuesday 18th June: 'sit out for a second and rethink the situation'.

After being at sixth form for the day and getting quite worked up about having to look at uni's and courses and other rubbish (my current opinion of it all) I went home and ended up going for a cycle to watch the sun set, ended up seeing 2 deer, lots of bats flying around and listening to the birds, it was really refreshing and nice to just chill and being in the middle of nowhere.

Wednesday 19th June: applied for my provisional license & off to a gig.

Time at sixth form, had 3 hours at home in between, applied for my provisional (keep off the roads :P) then fell asleep and may have been a bit late back into school... Then in the evening I took my Mum to a gig... It was Lewis Watson's tour, with Frank Hamilton and Shannon Saunders supporting. It was one of the most surreal nights ever, I helped Frank and Andy (his manager) quite a bit, did some flyering and the mailing list, got some merch and hugs and photos... Lewis was insane, I haven't seen him live before so it was great to see him and meet him and hear him somewhere other than my headphones!
Frank was insane as always, nuff said.
Shannon was amazing! I loved her song 'Heart of Blue' before I went but then when she performed it live I loved it even more, and the covers she did... Awesome! Just gutted I didn't get to meet her before she went!
#TeamFrank

Thursday 20th June: long words, long day and a cricket match.

Another day at sixth form and a cricket match for the boys that I'm helping to coach, they lost (badly) but considering the school they played puts a lot more money and time into their sports, it wasn't THAT bad a defeat...

Friday 21st June: socialising for once.

Friday, was a longg day, sixth form, then the youth club I help out at (which was low on leaders), then after changing my mind multiple times, I decided to go to my friends party, there were funny parts of the night, like being offered multiple bread rolls by a certain person... and another persons 'Guide to Dancing'... Still, I came home, had a hot chocolate and then went to bed.

Saturday 22nd June: stormy sky and rough seas.

I woke up, eyes streaming and a million sneezes later, I make it to the kitchen to sort out my hay-fever (which has been an absolute nightmare this week!) My sister comes back from horse-riding (which apparently she's a natural at!) Then I sorted my iPod out, and we were off for 2 days and a night to the coast. The weather wasn't great, bit too windy, meaning it was freezing (but I don't think it helped I'm still ill) Still, I survived and watched a programme about cats and then watched The Voice... wanted Leah to win, and let's be fair she should have won, Angela was great and stuff but even her parents looked shocked...

Sunday 23rd June: mission caterpillar.

Less windy today, did some gardening (funny enough, in the garden!) Had an eventful trip to the dump... The bags of cut down 'plants' seemed to be the home of a bunch full of caterpillars... Anyone that knows me will know that I have an almighty (see what I did there?! ;)) phobia of caterpillars... So my sister breaking down in tears and me being the brave person that I am ended up sitting in the back, sweating and hyperventilating over these flipping things... Anyway, on the way home we saw this and I thought it was insane, I'm a major fan of graffitti/street art style stuff and it was by a burned down and derelict garage which had unfortunately turned into a dump... But I thought it was pretty awesome, so major credit to whoever did it! It sort of sparked a question, should it be a crime to share your art like this? Personally, I think so long as it's appropriate for the place it's in (and it's good), it deserves to be shown...

Music of the Week!

The first one because of the gig on Wednesday... Loved this song anyway, but then her cover just completes it...
All I Want (cover) - Shannon Saunders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dOCT7LjZAg

Another one, because of the gig this week (but it would have made it on here sometime anyways!) (oh and he swears, but it's an insane cover, xylophone and everything!)
Teenage Dirtbag (cover) - Frank Hamilton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i_CvthsoTE

The next is from The Voice Final... Fell in love when it was performed, will's normal version isn't as good as with Leah, so here it is live!
Bang Bang - Leah McFall & will.i.am: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy9iiaFuxj0

The last one is a sneak preview of the first feature for the blog 'Music In Time' (cheeky plug for another blog, but hey!)

Other Links!

Lauren Aquilina is announcing info on her 2nd EP tonight (Sunday 23rd) at 8pm... It's also her 18th birthday! So go give her a like/follow, say happy birthday and stay tuned for her announcement!!

7th April 2013: 'give me a star to reach for'

soooo, I have had a nice week off, and plan to enjoy next week too... I don't really know how to form these blogs really? I don't know whether you want like a blog about what I did each this week, about the photos I took, do you want me to put all the photos from this week on this blog or eurgh I dunno, so this is an experimental entry, so if you only like certain bits, send me a comment on what you enjoy from it on my facebook page, which I'll link at the end :)

So...

Monday was a good day...
Spent most of it at my grandparents house and then came home and didn't do much else.
( By the way, this photo is a close up of my grandparents wallpaper, just cos I hadn't done many like this on my photo a day thing...)

Tuesday, the weather was really nice, at last. Didn't really do much, slept in until like 12, and then I sorted all my work notes out kinda properly, and then that was the day nearly over, I watched Step Up 3 with my sister too to finish it off :)
(This photo was the sunny evening behind some rooftops in my road)

Wednesday, I had to get up early to be in for a revision session at 9, so I went to that which last 3 hours... Then I came home, sorted those bits of revision out, had an afternoon sat listening to music and discovering yet more new people...
(This photo was my favourite from the week, I took it in the evening because I'd been sitting looking out of my bedroom window watching the evening come, and thought it made a kinda nice photo)

Thursday was a weird day, it snowed heavily but nothing really came of it, if that makes any sense? I looked after my sister in the afternoon and we looked through some old photos of when I was little... she couldn't believe how ginger I was?!
(This photo, was again taken from my bedroom window, I liked the snow/rain drop thing on my window with the garden and field in the background)

Friday, I was supposed to have gone in again for another revision session but I hadn't got to sleep properly til about 2 that morning, and wasn't feeling great so decided it was best not too. Still I felt a bit more alive and cheerier in the afternoon so went out with my Mum, Sister, Grandma and Great Aunty for lunch, which was pretty nice and then spent the evening watching doctor who with my sister :)
(This photo was taken from outside my house looking at some trees with a pretty cool cloud formation?!)

Saturday, was a lovely day, I went to the beach with some of my family, I even walked along the beach with my Mum without a hoody, it was that warm! Had a nice meal out, and even the car journey there and back was nice cos me and my sister, plugged into my ipod and just chilled to some music and watched some Toy Story Toons, which I must say are pretty cool :P Then when we came home I went out to do babysitting :)

(This photo, I sort of wanted to experiment with a bit, it was shot at the beach, that's kinda obvious when I read over that... But yeah and I thought the sea looked so calm and it's just quite a chilled feel about it?)

Today has been pretty good, got up at a reasonable time... Watched Gabrielle Aplin and Carrie Hope Fletcher on Sunday Brunch... I then started to sort out my photos for my best of video for this... You'll find out more about that in June/July... The rest of the household went for a walk, so this gave me time to sort out some more work and revision notes, then I started to sort out my tickets, old posters and old school books, many of which I need to chuck out. Still, I then went for a walk round the back and along the river, and met da peeps at the pub/restarant and had dinner :) So a rather nice finish to my first week of the holidays... Today's photo was taken with the sun setting (again) and silhouettes :)

Highlights Of The Week: The sunsets, as you can probably tell... also I got to see the stars quitet a bit this week because of clearer evenings and nights, which always puts a smile on my face :) and finally getting down to my favourite beach and being able to go for a walk along the front.

Quote Of The Week: 'take from today what you got.' - I've had a rather quotey week and this one came from my step-dad on the way home from the beach, and I guess it's an attitude people should take more often, if you've had a good day, take from it a smile, if you've had a rubbish day, put the 'rubbish' in the bin and forget about it :)

Song Of The Week: This is a tough one as I've been listening to literally hundreds of songs over the past week, but after his song Thrift Shop... I quite like Wings by Macklemore... It's a simple song and it's where the name of blog came from...I'll put a link at the end :)

Twitter For The Week: I got followed by Pop Tarts!! My life was made when that happened, I also got a follow from Lauern Aquilina and Ash Morgan (the first person to audition on The Voice this series...) and a few tweets from Frank Hamilton and Natty Holmes.

So there we go, let me know what you liked and what you didn't like as much on my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/onedayatatimeevan

Wings - Macklemore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAg3uMlNyHA

Thank You, and thank you for the 3,000 views I've now got... :D
